Best/Recommended Introductory Courses (General Education, Tier 1) for Prospective Majors in Regional Development (these cannot be counted for both Tier 1 and the Major):
INDV 102: Human Geography and Global Systems
INDV 103: Environment and Society
NATS 101: Earth's Environment: Introduction to Physical Geography
NOTE: The General Education Math Requirement, MATH 110 College Algebra, must be completed prior to enrolling in Regional Development Major Foundations Courses.
The Regional Development Major consists of a minimum of 36 units (21 Upper Division) as specified below.
1. Foundations (Complete 6-12 units depending on the courses selected) Note: Foundations Courses must be completed before enrolling in Core, Methods, and Capstone Courses.
Complete one of the following:
MATH 113: Elements of Calculus
MATH 115A and 115B: Business Mathematics I and II
MATH 124: Calculus I with Applications
MATH 125: Calculus I
AND
Complete one of the following:
ECON 200: Basic Economic Issues and ACCT 200: Introduction to Financial Accounting
ECON 201A and 201B: Principles of Economics
ECON 210: Survey of Economics
2. Core Courses (Complete at least 12 units):
GEOG 305: Economic Geography
GEOG 367: Population Geography
GEOG 371: Principles and Practices of Regional Development
GEOG 379: Urban Growth and Development
PLN 100-499: Any 3 units selected from Planning (Note: PLN 301: Introduction to Planning, is the recommended option)
3. Methods Courses (Complete at least 6 units). Strongly advised: GEOG 457.

4. Internship/Capstone (Complete at least 3 units). All Foundations and Core Courses should be completed prior to enrollment in an Internship/Capstone course. Completing both an internship and a capstone course is strongly encouraged.
