Curriculum Vitae
Research
I earned my Diploma degree in Geography at the University of Leipzig, Germany, where I specialized in landscape ecology and remote sensing/GIS. In my Diploma thesis I modeled future land use changes in the transboundary Tisza basin by creating a probabilistic raster model for different IPCC future scenarios.
My studies at the U of A focus on applications of GIS and remote sensing in physical geography, especially the influence of humans on water resources. The topic of my master’s thesis is the development and evaluation of a classification process for impervious areas in semi-arid landscapes. Imperviousness is an important parameter in surface hydrology and is often used in hydrologic models.
For the thesis and other projects I work closely with the USDA Agricultural Research Center and the Upper San Pedro Partnership (USPP).
Project Involvement
- Development of an object-oriented classification of impervious areas for hydrologic modeling
- Comparative study of effects of development and construction on soil properties and infiltration values
- Feasibility study about using remote sensing to determine rural water use in Cochise County, AZ.
- Incorporation of radar-derived roughness values in hydrologic models.
